Second Grade Learns Graphing with a Turtle

Last Friday, one of our second grade classes had a WatchDog Dad visit to share a very cool website with them. He started the lesson by demonstrating how he programmed the website to behave the way that he wanted it to. He then talked about how they could interact with the website. Using our laptops, the students were about to interact with a graph that would control the direction that a little turtle would travel. The goal was to direct the turtle to his home in the pond. Once the students entered the proper step by step directions the turtle would dive in the pond, smile and wave at them. The students had a great time interacting with this website. One student even exclaimed, 'Hey, this is math!', to the delight of his classroom teacher.
