Showcase Teacher: Laura Battershell!

Laura Battershell is part of the Fourth Grade Team at Sommer Elementary. Ms. Battershell is excited to learn new technology and resources. She places great value on using the technology tools available on campus and using those with students to enhance her daily instruction.

Here are some ways she uses technology:

  • Powerpoint Projects
  • Document Camera
  • Laptops
  • Word
  • Promethean software and ActiVotes
  • Research Projects
What is a favorite lesson that you do that incorporates technology?
I use the document camera throughout the day to show written responses, examples of stories, note taking tips, single copy books and celebrating student work.

What is the one instructional technology that you feel you could no longer live without?
The document camera and classroom projection system

If wishes could come true, what technology would you want to have available in your classroom to enhance instruction?
A Promethean Board and one laptop for every student.

What are your thoughts on using technology in the classroom as part of instruction?
Technology is great! It allows for teachers to make learning more engaging for the students and more on their level. This generation has used technology forever and it can be difficult for them to stay engaged when the teaching style is not changing with the students' interests. Technology allows for many different ways to teach something, which really helps struggling learners to get those multiple perspectives and allows those higher level learners to be challenged as well.
