Showcase Teacher: Amy Stearns!

Amy Stearns is part of the Third Grade Team at Sommer Elementary. Ms. Stearns places great value on the uses and future of technology and is willing to try new lessons and ideas with her students; learning right along with them. She is excited about finding new ways to integrate technology into the curriculum.

Here are a few ways that she uses technology:

  • Research projects
  • Math online resources
  • Word
  • Library research resources
  • PhotoStory
  • Powerpoint
  • Photo editing
What is a favorite lesson that you do that incorporates technology?
My favorite is when my students research a planet and then create a slide using PhotoStory. When all the students put in their graphic, type in their points, and narrate their slide, we make it into one whole story. I love watching the students the first time we watch the completed project as a class.

What is the one instructional technology that you feel you could no longer live without?
The document camera and classroom projection system

If wishes could come true, what technology would you want to have available in your classroom to enhance instruction?
A laptop for every student

What are your thoughts on using technology in the classroom as part of instruction?
It is hugely motivating and can be a better way for some to learn concepts that they otherwise might struggle with.
