In Mrs. Baker's Second Grade class, students were taking turns using the slate to answer mental math problems on difference. On a Flipchart that Mrs. Baker had set up, students would see three numbers, each in a colored circle. Mrs. Baker would ask a question like, which number is closest to 100 and they would circle that number. Then she would ask a follow up question; what's the difference between that number and 100? The student would write that number on the flipchart. After several turns, she transitioned to <, >, =. Very cute flipchart with an alligator eating pictures of food. Students flipped the pages and then took turns click/dragging the correct symbol to make the picture sentence correct.
It was a fun lesson and the students were all actively engaged and excited to have their turn!
